Life in Scrubs supports Shake It Up

One of the most important things for the Life in Scrubs team is that our customer community gets to make memories in our scrubs, day in and out. Unique memories from our workdays stick with us even when we get old.

One of the diseases that heavily influences how we enjoy life at an older age is Parkinson’s Disease. One in 100,000 Australian’s suffer from Parkinson’s in Australia with 20% being of working age (under 65). It is a progressive, degenerative neurological condition that cannot yet be diagnosed through testing.

One charity in Australia has the mission to fund research to find better treatments and ultimately a cure for Parkinson’s Disease.

What is Shake It Up?

The Shake It Up Australia Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes and funds Parkinson’s disease research in Australia.

The financial support allows research projects to find better treatments to slow, stop, prevent and ultimately cure Parkinson’s.

So far, Shake It Up has supported 63 Parkinson’s Research Projects across 19 Australian Research Institutes. Since 2011, the foundation has co-funded over 22 million dollars for Parkinson’s research projects within Australia.

Shake It Up works in partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) in the USA. MJFF has a scientific board that receives applications for research about Parkinson’s from institutes all over the world. They then send the Australian projects to Shake It Up and support them in a 50/50% split to finance the research.

How did Shake It Up start?

Shake It Up was founded in 2011 by Clyde Campbell. Clyde was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at the age of 44 but instead of sitting back and accepting having Parkinson’s, he decided to make a difference. He launched the Shake It Up Australia Foundation hoping to find better treatments that slows, stop, and prevent the disease.

Their goal is also to find a biomarker for Parkinson’s as it can be challenging to diagnose. The foundation also supports research that investigates the genetic causes to ultimately find a cure.

How will Shake It Up use the Life in Scrubs donations?

The founding directors of Shake It Up, Clyde and Greg Campbell, cover all the overhead and administration costs of the foundation. All four team members of the foundation work from their home offices to enable Shake It Up to donate 100% of the funds to research.

That means, all donations will go towards funding research that will hopefully ultimately find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease.

Why did we choose Shake It Up?

Shake It Up is a small, unique foundation that enables research institutes to find out as much as possible about causes and treatments for Parkinson’s Disease.

Life in Scrubs operates widely in the medical field in Australia, too, and this is our chance to give back to research. It also allows us to be part of making a positive impact on so many Australians that have the disease.

How can you support Shake It Up?

On the Life in Scrubs check-out page, we will ask you to choose a charity that you want to support with your scrubs purchase. By selecting Shake It Up, $3 per scrubs set of your order will go to the foundation at the end of the 1-year period.

If you like to make additional donations, go to the Shake It Up website.

We are looking forward to supporting Shake It Up with your help this year!
